Indigenous engagement

We would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land we are on. We pay our respect to Elders past, present and future.

The Faculty of Engineering is committed to fostering meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, embedding Indigenous knowledge and perspectives into our curriculum, and utilising our Engineering expertise to contribute to the betterment of Indigenous communities.

Meet our Associate Dean Indigenous

Associate Professor Shannon Kilmartin-Lynch is a proud Yowong-Illam-Baluk and Natarrak-Baluk man belonging to the Taungurung people. Shannon is dedicated to elevating Indigenous STEM knowledge and showcasing the vast research potential within Indigenous communities.

My journey as a proud Gunaikurnai man has been one of resilience and growth. From humble beginnings on my family's small farm to tackling the complexities of civil engineering projects, I've learned that success isn’t just about personal achievement; it's about uplifting others. Through my experiences at Monash and the support of the William Cooper Institute, I now strive to empower young First Nations individuals as they embark on their own paths in construction and education."
