Functional and Energy Materials
Researchers in the department are interested in a wide range of functional materials for a wide range of applications. New materials for photovoltaic technologies are a particular focus, targeting next generation materials such as organometal halide perovskites and organic semiconductors. Novel (opto) electronic materials including graphene, 2D transition metal dichalcogenides and topological insulators are also of interest for photonic, plasmonic and optoelectronic applications. Another strong research area is magnetic materials including nanocrystalline soft magnetic alloys, magnetic nanoparticles and magnetic thin films for applications ranging from healthcare to spintronics.
