Ms. Kathy Petkoff
Kathy Petkoff is an engineering educator and researcher with extensive experience in both industry and higher education. She currently teaches across a range of engineering programs, with a particular focus on engineering design, project-based learning, and professional engineering practice.
Kathy leads and coordinates design engineering units, where she works closely with students and staff to deliver authentic learning experiences that prepare graduates for professional practice. Her teaching philosophy centres on student-centred learning, constructive feedback, and creating opportunities for students to develop technical expertise alongside teamwork, communication, and project management skills.
Her research interests include engineering education, the ethical use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in engineering and engineering education, assessment and feedback practices, and the development of innovative teaching approaches that enhance student learning and engagement. She is actively involved in advancing best practice in engineering education through scholarship, curriculum development, and educational leadership.
Prior to entering academia, Kathy gained significant industry experience in the Defence sector, bringing a practical and applied perspective to her teaching and research. She is committed to strengthening the connection between engineering education and professional practice to ensure graduates are equipped to address complex real-world challenges.
