What to do with your free electives

First year science units

Refer to this table for all the first year science units available. Use it to select additional level one science units you would like to complete. It is up to you what units you select in addition to your science sequences and core units. Many science students use these units to explore areas of science completely outside their experience.

Free electives

You can complete 18 or 24 points of free electives as part of your course depending on your level one core requirements listed above. You can do up to 24 points of free electives if you complete a level one mathematics sequence and 18 points if you don’t. Elective units may be taken from non-science disciplines to broaden knowledge as long as you have the prerequisites and there are no restrictions on enrolment in the units. You may need permission from the owning faculty to enrol in some units taught by other faculties.

Free electives can be identified in the current edition of the Handbook. The level of the unit is indicated by the first number in the unit code; undergraduate units are those that commence with the numbers 1-3.
