Three Engineering faculty members awarded with Companion of the Order of Australia medals in 2018 Australia Day honours

The Faculty of Engineering warmly congratulates its academic staff Professor Rhys Jones, Professor Jeffrey Rosenfeld and Professor Ezio Rizzardo on each receiving the nation’s highest honour, the Companion (AC) in the General Division of the Order of Australia, in the Australia Day 2018 Honours List.
Professor Jones, of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Professor Rosenfeld, director of Monash Institute of Medical Engineering (MIME), and Professor Rizzardo, of Materials Science and Engineering were three of six Victorians awarded the honours.
A member of the faculty for 24 years, Professor Jones AC was recognised for his eminent service to mechanical and aerospace engineering, and to education as an academic, researcher and author, particularly in the area of aircraft structural mechanics, corrosion repair and airworthiness.
MIME director Professor Rosenfeld AC, AM was recognised for eminent service to medicine, particularly to the discipline of neurosurgery, as an academic and clinician, to medical research and professional organisations, and to the health and welfare of current and former defence force members.
Materials Science and Engineering Adjunct Professor Rizzardo AC was recognised for eminent service to scientific technological research and development in the field of polymer chemistry, to its application in the biomedical, electronics and nanotechnology context, as an author, and through mentorship roles.
Dean of Engineering Elizabeth Croft says, “I am delighted at the wonderful news that three of our colleagues have been made Companions of the Order of Australia. This is a very significant recognition and a testament to their many eminent contributions and service to society. I also extend my warmest congratulations to all of our Monash colleagues and alumni who were honoured this weekend.”
The Faculty of Engineering also congratulates the faculty 2013 Alumni of the Year Mr Russell Scott, for his award of a Member (AM) of the General Division of Order of Australia for significant service to chemical engineering through leading roles in developing and improving professional education.
