Daniel Lambert

Daniel Lambert is an internationally recognised civil engineer, humanitarian, and thought leader whose 25-year career has transformed the global water industry. With experience across 25 countries, Daniel has combined technical excellence with social purpose, shaping how communities, governments, and industries approach water, sustainability, and resilience.

As Arup’s Australasia Water Leader and founder of the Community Transformation Foundation, Daniel has pioneered landmark innovations including The Future of Urban Water scenario planning framework, adopted in cities worldwide, and the Australian Water Consumer Outlook, which redefined public engagement in infrastructure policy. His leadership of groundbreaking projects such as Australia’s first plastic-free floating wetland and the Oyster Reef Restoration Project demonstrates his ability to translate research into impactful, nature-based solutions for climate resilience.

Daniel’s commitment to humanitarian engineering is equally remarkable. Through pro bono projects across Africa, Asia, and the Pacific, he has delivered safe water and sanitation solutions to thousands of people, advancing equity and capacity-building in under-resourced communities. His advocacy for reconciliation through equitable First Nations infrastructure partnerships is setting a new benchmark for socially just engineering practice.

A national ambassador for WaterAid and a director with Engineers Without Borders, Daniel has led countless initiatives that expand access to clean water and strengthen community resilience. Beyond his professional achievements, he volunteers as an Auxiliary Firefighter and actively supports Indigenous and youth education programs, encouraging the next generation to pursue engineering.

A decorated engineer and mentor, Daniel has received numerous national honours including the Sir John Holland Civil Engineer of the Year, Australian Water Association Water Professional of the Year, Engineers Australia President’s Award for Excellence, NSW Minister’s Planning and Public Open Space Award. In 2025, he was recognised on the King’s Birthday Honours List for his ‘significant service to engineering and the water sector, and his dedication to professional associations.’
