Are there any other notable experiences from your time at Monash you’d like to share?

One of the highlights from my time at Monash was the year I spent studying abroad at Monash Malaysia. To be able to explore such a beautiful part of the world, meet lifelong friends and experience Malaysia’s incredible mix of cultures was an unbelievably fun experience.

If you could tell your graduate self one piece of career advice what would it be and why?

I’d probably want to tell my younger self to relax a little more. As a fresh grad I tended to be very intense when starting new things. As I’ve grown up though I’ve found that things like learning and exercise are much easier to maintain when you focus on removing obstacles that prevent you from getting started and then just relaxing and enjoying yourself. I’d also tell my younger self to buy Bitcoin.

Tell us about your experience since leaving Monash: how has your career progressed to date? Any professional achievements you’d like to share?

Perhaps the thing I’m most proud of is FLUX - the software company I started with two of my best friends. What started as a small project in my final year of uni grew to become a PhD research project and then an edtech company facilitating millions of learning interactions each year. It’s definitely safe to say that we would not have been able to achieve what we have without the support of the Monash community.

What are some of your passions and interests?

I’m very interested in Effective Altruism and the Longtermist movements. I think there’s good reason to believe this century may be particularly important for humanity and that the actions we take today could have profound effects on our long-term future. There’s also a surprising number of concrete things we can do today that have a good chance of steering things in a positive direction.

I understand you came through the Accelerator program with your startup FLUX - how did the program support scaling up your business?

Taking part in The Generator Accelerator program was an incredible experience. Perhaps the best part was being able to learn from and work with such optimistic, hardworking and thoughtful people. Although it was only 12 weeks, my cofounder and I made lifelong friends and connections who still influence our thinking today. The community around The Generator also has some of the most honest, open and giving people I’ve ever met.
