2023 Civil Engineering Alumnus of the Year: Ms Claire Ferres Miles

Claire Ferres Miles
Claire gained a Master of Transport in 2010 and Master of Traffic 2011 from the Department of Civil Engineering.
Claire is a strong advocate for equity of leadership, enabling the collaboration of voices from diverse backgrounds, genders, and experiences, understanding and removing barriers. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration and in 2017 was recognised as a Top 50 Woman in the Victorian Public Sector.
She has held positions as Senior Consultant at Greg Tucker & Associates and WS Atkins Planning Consultants, London, UK, Specialist Advisor London Bus Initiative, Transport for London, Associate Director Transport Strategies & Planning, Department of Transport, Planning & Local Infrastructure, Interim Chief Executive Officer / Director City Strategy & Place, City of Melbourne, and Chief Executive Officer, Sustainability Victoria.
As CEO of Sustainable Victoria with 215 staff, Claire led an ambitious reform agenda and growth strategy to amplify influence and impact across government and with stakeholders, achieving a 400% growth in capital project delivery from $30m to $120 million per annum during the COVID pandemic.
Claire has been involved in numerous Boards including Chair Place Leaders Asia Pacific, BehaviourWorks Australia Advisory Board, Monash University, Co-Founder Voices of Casey and President of Selby Primary School Council.
In 2023 Claire was an independent candidate for the federal electorate of Casey with a policy focus on accelerated climate action, integrity, and equity - a values-led community campaign of 230 volunteers over 11 weeks.
