$53.3M for Monash: big ideas, big health breakthroughs

Mehmet Yuce

Monash University researchers have secured $53.3 million in National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Ideas Grants, with 32 projects funded to drive the next wave of innovation in health and medical research.

The Ideas Grant scheme supports bold, creative projects over one to five years and this year’s awards highlight Monash’s strength across some of Australia’s most urgent health challenges.

Among the funded projects is research led by Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellow Professor Mehmet Yuce of Monash Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering.

Professor Yuce is developing technology that uses smartphone cameras and AI to measure blood pressure, opening new possibilities for more accessible hypertension care, particularly for children and remote communities.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise) Professor Robyn Ward AM said the awards reflect Monash’s ambition to turn discovery into real-world health outcomes from stroke treatments and viral infections to chronic pain solutions.
