Joining the world's biofuel champions

Monash Chemical and Biological Engineering PhD candidate Harshita Malik has been awarded the prestigious Global Biofuel Champion Fellowship (GBCF) by the Global Biofuels Alliance, an international honour recognising emerging leaders in sustainable biofuel research.

Harshita's research is tackling one of chemical engineering's long-standing "dream reactions": converting methane from biogas directly into liquid methanol at low temperatures using biomimetic nanozymes. If successfully scaled, the technology could transform waste methane into a cleaner, more transportable fuel, helping accelerate the global transition to sustainable energy.

The year-long Fellowship is designed to support promising researchers develop practical, scalable biofuel solutions with global impact. Selected as one of just 20 Fellows worldwide, Harshita will receive research funding and international networking opportunities to engage directly with leading experts, policymakers and industry partners.
