Dr Babak Boroujeni

Babak Boroujeni

Babak Boroujeni has quickly distinguished himself as an outstanding young engineer whose contributions span both academia and industry. A few months before completing his PhD at Monash, he joined AMC Consultants, an international leader in geotechnical and mining engineering and soon earned recognition for his exceptional technical capability and leadership.

Within a short time, Babak was appointed Global Numerical Modelling Lead, a role typically held by senior engineers. In this position, he has applied advanced computational modelling to improve the safety and sustainability of mining operations across Australia, Africa, Asia, and beyond. His innovative solutions are helping shape best practice in geotechnical engineering worldwide.

Babak’s influence extends far beyond his professional work. He has shown remarkable leadership through his involvement with international organisations, including serving as Chair of the American Rock Mechanics Association Student Council, representing 21 universities globally, and now as Australasia Representative on the International Society for Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering Young Professionals Committee.

He has also been recognised with the ARMA Distinguished Service Award for advancing global collaboration in rock mechanics and continues to mentor emerging engineers, bridging research and practice to address real-world challenges.

Through his leadership, technical innovation, and commitment to community and professional development, Babak exemplifies the spirit of Monash Engineering and the impact that early-career engineers can achieve on a global stage.
