Dr. Arash Zamyadi
Dr Arash Zamyadi is a Senior Lecturer at Monash University Department of Civil Engineering. Arash’s scientific research mission is linked to water and wastewater treatment and public health within a sustainable circular economy. Water is at the core of many of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. He believes it is imperative to provide access to clean water and sanitation for all. Arash has focused on the application of scientific and engineering innovation for the provision of essential services such as water, sanitation, hygiene, energy, food, and public healthcare. Arash has several years of experience working with academics, government agencies, utilities and industry partners in Asia-Pacific, North America, and European Union to tackle strategic initiatives/challenges in environmental science and engineering, and water-energy nexus and nutrient recovery within circular hydrogen economy framework.
Arash has focused his research activities on the evolution of water and wastewater treatment, taking on the challenges brought about by climate change, with specific experience in how climate change and harmful algal blooms affect water treatment, removal of combined microbial/chemical contaminants and
reuse opportunities. He has also broadened his research focus to the use of microalgae for “energy” and “food” production.
As a big picture thinker, he accentuates the system in which he is functioning, which involves looking into numerous stakeholders including government agencies, utilities and industry partners, their customers and communities, and future technological disruptions. His goal is to translate fundamental scientific discoveries more quickly and efficiently into practice.
