Strain/Displacement Testing Equipment

MTS laser extensometer LX500
Used for non-contacting strain/displacement measurement of the specimen’s gauge length specified by the spacing between reflective tape strips on the specimen. It is a perfect device for applications not requiring more than 380mm of travel.
Features:
- Meets ASTM B1 extensometer classification (25mm and longer gage length).
- Measures the initial gage length of the specimen directly
- Updates the strain/displacement measurement 100 times per second.
- Selectable averaging of 2 to 512 scans.
- The strain/displacement can be measured separately over three segments within the specimen’s gage length
- Special reflective tapes can be used for strain measurement at temperatures up to 150 °C.
- Analog output port given for closed loop strain control or for input to a data acquisition board, chart recorder, etc.
- Easily transportable
- Parallel beam design accommodates operation through chamber glass (up to two panes of optical quality), a clear bath, water, etc.

Aramis 3D Photogrammetry System with low and high speed cameras
Used for full-field and point-based measurements of objects of just a few millimeters up to structural components of several meters in size.
Features:
- For statically or dynamically loaded specimens and components, provides accurate real-time and material independent measurements up to 6000fps such as:
- 3D coordinates, 3D displacements, 3D velocities, and 3D accelerations
- Surface strain values and rates
- Material properties for simulation (Young’s modulus etc.)
- Evaluations of 6 degrees of freedom (6DoF)
- Easy to understand graphical and visual presentation of the results
- Multi-sensors: Combining several ARAMIS sensors, allows for measuring from various perspectives with different measuring areas.
- ARAMIS Professional Software offers the complete workflow from measuring data acquisition, via analysis, up to reporting.
Mercury Real-Time Tracking System
Used for non-contacting strain/deformation measurement of samples during material testing by applying multiple virtual probes (Movement Sensors) on markers and advanced image features to be tracked, including the natural pattern of the sample surfaces.
Features:
- Suitable for determination of various material properties (tensile tests, uni/biaxial properties, contractions) including:
- Large strain rates
- Vibration measurement
- Crack propagation
- Dynamic testing
- Quality control

Instron Ave 2 Non-Contacting Video Extrensometer
Used for fast and accurate non-contacting strain/displacement measurement during static/cyclic and fatigue tests.
Features:
- Conforms to the most rigorous testing standards, including ISO 527-2 and ASTM D638 for plastics and ISO 6892-1 and ASTM E8 for metals
- Eliminates the effect of operators on the strain results; producing more consistent and repeatable results
- Measures strain through failure and challenging applications, including at high and low temperatures, or on materials submerged in a fluid bath
- Measures modulus and strain to failure for almost any material, including plastics, metals, composites, and elastomers
- Captures fast events at up to 490 Hz while still getting full accuracy
- Use on any Instron systems (past and present), as well as non-Instron systems that accept an ± 0-10V analogue input
