Hao Deng is a talented engineer and researcher with a focus on microfluidic technologies. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Philosophy in Materials Science and Engineering at Monash University. His research work includes developing X-ray compatible microfluidics for in-situ chemistry at synchrotron sources, which is supervised by Prof. Jacek Jasieniak and Dr. Tuncay Alan. Hao completed his Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering at Monash University in 2018.

Hao’s research assistant experience at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Monash University has been multidisciplinary, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills and outstanding scientific knowledge. He has worked on a wide range of projects, including the development of an ultrafast star-shaped acoustic micromixer for high throughput nanoparticle synthesis, the optimization of a microlens array for enhancing the efficiency of single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) sensors, and the microfluidic synthesis of CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals.

Hao has also been involved in the development of a low-cost point-of-care (POC) diagnostic platform for COVID-19 based on Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) technique. He has designed and prototyped the microfluidic and mechanical parts of the device. Hao has also worked at Alfred Health, developing a portable lab-on-a-chip sensing device for rapidly detecting specific nucleic acids, proteins, cells, or metabolites in body fluids.

Apart from his research work, Hao is also currently working as a Teaching Associate at Monash University, where he has taught several courses, including Micro and Nanotechnologies: Fabrication and Applications, Engineering Computational Analysis, Renewable Energy Systems, and Mechanics of Materials. His teaching experience has been a valuable addition to his academic and research pursuits, demonstrating his ability to convey complex concepts effectively to his students.
