Ms. Nithyapriya Boopathi
Postgraduate Student - IITB
Department of Civil Engineering
Nithypriya.B completed her B.E in Civil Engineering from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, India in May 2014. She did her final year project on ‘Utilisation of recycled carpet wastes as soil reinforcement’ in Deakin University, Waurnponds, Australia. She was awarded the overall Best Outgoing Student (KOORATHALAWAR) award of PSG Tech for the academic year 2010-2014. She completed her M.Tech in Remote Sensing and GIS from National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal in July 2016. Her master’s research work is in ‘Coastal inundation study using Support Vector Machine in Remote Sensing’, under the guidance of Dr.G.S.Dwarakish, Professor & Head, Department of Applied Mechanics and Hydraulics. The project deals about the vulnerability and adaptive capacity of the coastal ecosystem to sea level rise which is the outcome of change in climate. Soft computing algorithm named Support Vector Machine (SVM) has been used effectively in this study. She has undergone a summer internship programme in Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun and worked on ‘Annual and Seasonal variation of Aerosol Index over Indian Region using Aura – Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) data’. Her research interests includes: Optical & Microwave Remote Sensing, Soft Computing Techniques, Image Processing and Geographical Information System (GIS). At IITB-Monash Research academy she is working under the guidance of Prof. Y.S.Rao (IITB) and Prof. Jeff Walker (Monash University) under the area of ‘ Towards Soil Moisture Retrieval using P-band Radiometer Observations’. Through this project, we aim to develop a new concept for satellite-based soil moisture retrieval. She is a nature-lover and would like to travel.
