Research Interests

My field of expertise covers three main domains: Materials Science of structural materials, Methods to develop and optimise materials and materials selection, and Energy and energy related topics for sustainable development. I have been active mostly via modelling and simulation activities in close relation with experimentalists. Most of the studies in materials have been devoted to metals and alloys (focussing on the relations process/microstructures/properties). My research on design methodologies has led me to develop the concept of “architectured materials” in close collaborations with M. F. Ashby. My function as scientific advisor of the French government (High Commissioner for Atomic and Alternative Energies) has led me to develop a broad view on energy issues in the context of global warming.
