Michelin Australia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Monash University – strengthening a relationship that will focus on learning, employability, talent development, research, business and corporate responsibility projects.

On Monday 21 October, Monash welcomed Michelin’s East Asia & Oceania President and Managing Director Manuel Fafian, Michelin Australia Managing Director Oliver Biggart, HR People Development Partner Sherly Lin and People Progress Specialist Michelle Hally to its Clayton campus.
The highlight of the visit was the signing of a MoU between the two organisations – a launchpad for collaboration on new Michelin internships starting in 2025, and a range of potential research, career development, placement and industry initiatives in Australia.
‘I am so proud of our partnership with Monash University. Together we will be able to accelerate the development of our people, unlock their true potential, and enable them to build a sustainable future for all. How we learn is the key to driving impact in the world.’ said Mr Fafian.
The visit also saw the delegation tour the University’s FutureLab, Monash Makespace, Monash Innovation Labs and Monash Motorsport, engaging with students and their project showcases while learning about the cutting-edge work being undertaken in these facilities.
Michelin’s Strategy for 2030 ‘Michelin in Motion’ prioritises technological leadership to drive the development of its electric mobility and ultimately, reduce its environmental impact at every stage of its tyres' lifecycles.
The organisation also strongly believes that sustainable growth is underpinned by the fulfilment of its people, which spans being world-class in employee safety and a leader in diversity and inclusion.
These focus areas align strongly with Monash University’s own Impact 2030 strategy which aims to produce job-ready graduates, deliver real-world experience and create greater opportunities for underrepresented groups while championing a greener world through collaborative research and development.
‘Our collaboration with Michelin marks a significant milestone that will not only elevate our students' learning experiences but also contribute to groundbreaking advancements on a bigger scale. I’m excited to witness how this collaboration will shape a better future for our communities.’ said Professor Ann Nicholson, Dean of Monash’s Faculty of IT.
Monash and Michelin’s new partnership will pave the path to more talent development employability opportunities such as internships and projects.
The visit was hosted by leadership from Monash’s Faculty of IT, Dean Professor Ann Nicholson, FutureLab Co-Chair Professor Maria Garcia de la Banda, Course Director Dr Chakkrit Tantithamthavorn, Senior Engagement Officer Amanda Teo and Director for Business Development and Performance Paul Wong. The delegates were also welcomed by the Faculty of Engineering’s Deputy Dean Enterprise Adrian Neild and Director of Monash Student Teams and Clubs, Scott Wordley.
