VIEWS 2025 Shapes Indigenous Futures in Engineering
This week, Monash University hosted 26 Year 10-12 Indigenous students from across four States as part of the Victorian Indigenous Engineering Winter School (VIEWS).

A powerful program designed to grow Indigenous representation in STEM, VIEWS offers students a chance to explore what studying and working in engineering and IT really looks like.
Following a welcome from Professor Yiannis Ventikos, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Associate Dean (Indigenous) Professor Shannon Kilmartin-Lynch, students engaged in hands-on learning activities in our Digital Makerspace and Monash Innovation Labs including:
- 3D printing
- Laser cutting
- Digital Twins and AI applications
- Charpy testing using chocolate bars
Participants enjoyed a presentation over lunch at the William Cooper Institute followed by interactive workshops hosted by Monash Human Power and Monash Automation student teams.
Monash Engineering is committed to supporting the next generation of Indigenous STEM leaders. Programs like VIEWS are a vital step in building curiosity, capability and community, making space for every voice in shaping the future.
Thanks to all who contributed to the experience - Dr Keenan Granland, Dr Freyja Peters, Kit Kirby, Gabrielle Newman, Casey Diep and co. for creating an inspirational day of learning.
