Building nuclear research communities

This week, Professor Michael Preuss of Monash Materials Science and Engineering delivered the plenary lecture at the inaugural UK Nuclear Plant Corrosion (UK-NPCorr) meeting at the Henry Royce Institute in Manchester.

Organised to build a stronger, more connected UK-focused nuclear corrosion community, the conference brought together experts from academia, industry and national laboratories to explore nuclear plant corrosion and environmentally assisted cracking.

The two-day program featured industry perspectives on current challenges facing nuclear utilities. It also included technical presentations spanning both fission and fusion systems, from today's operating reactors to future nuclear concepts, covering material testing, characterisation, modelling and materials performance.

Professor Preuss (pictured second from left, front) said "It was a great honour to deliver the plenary lecture at the inaugural UK Nuclear Plant Corrosion meeting and talk about how we developed a wonderful collaborative research culture within the Zr research community, and how such collaboration has resulted in excellent research output and impact. Many thanks again for providing the opportunity to talk about it this meeting."
