Global commendation for circular economy innovation
Monash Engineering congratulates Evangeline Leong of Chemical and Biological Engineering for being Highly Commended in the "Waste Valorisation and Circular Economy" category of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) 2026 Young Engineers Awards for Innovation and Sustainability (YEAIS).
The global awards recognise outstanding IChemE members aged 18 to 30 who are developing innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing sustainability challenges. They celebrate emerging talent across energy and climate action, environmental protection, process safety and the circular economy.
Of this recognition Evangeline says “Climate technology is ultimately a team sport. While I’m honoured by this recognition, it reflects the contributions of many mentors, colleagues, industry and government stakeholders who have come together to support the journey towards decarbonisation. I hope it also encourages more young engineers to pursue ambitious ideas, embrace interdisciplinary collaboration, and tackle the challenges of the energy transition.”
Winners, highly commended winners, finalists and participants will have the opportunity to present their projects at one of three showcase events:
- 26 June 2026: Edinburgh International Conference Centre, Edinburgh, UK
- 7–9 September 2026: SOMChE Conference, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
- 28–30 September 2026: Chemeca Conference, Melbourne, Australia
