Monash expert chairs major international conference

Professor Jian-Feng Nie of Monash Materials Science and Engineering is Organising Chair of the 12th Pacific Rim International Conference on Advanced Materials and Processing (PRICM12).

To be held on the Gold Coast (Australia) from 9 - 13 August 2026, Professor Jian-Feng says “PRICM12 brings together several hundred world-class scientists and engineers and over 1,600 delegates at a time when materials are central to cleaner energy and advanced manufacturing.

As Chair, I see it as a chance to turn ideas into real-world solutions - from better use of critical minerals to more sustainable technologies - while building global partnerships and inspiring the next generation.”

Such leadership reflects Monash Engineering’s strong global reputation in materials research, and its commitment to advancing solutions for a more sustainable and technologically advanced future.

Professor Jian-Feng was 2024 recipient of the Materials Australia Silver Medal "for outstanding contributions to the advancement of metallurgy, metallurgical engineering, materials science or materials engineering through management, teaching, innovation, development or research."
