Passionate about making healthcare better

Sriram Srinivasan | Biomedical/Medical Engineering

Sriram is a current Masters student who is passionate about pursuing a career in the medical technology industry. Based on a strong interest in biomechanics and biomaterials, Sriram aims to work across medical device design, production, classification and regulation in his future career.

As part of the Masters Work Integrated Learning unit, Sriram is currently gaining valuable professional experience through an internship with Melbourne med-tech company Navi Medical Technologies, where he is involved with developing a consumable device component to help in the accurate placement of catheters in sick newborns needing hospital treatment.

“My internship with Navi has been the highlight of my Master’s degree so far,” Sriram said. “I’m really proud that I’m working on a product that will make a difference to sick babies, their families and the healthcare teams providing their care.”

Sriram also joined the Monash Young MedTech Innovators (MYMI), an interdisciplinary student team dedicated to achieving positive impact through medical technology and biomedical innovation. Through his involvement with the team, he received a $5000 Healthcare Innovation Summer Scholarship to develop a visual acuity testing mobile app for bed bound patients, supervised by a clinician from Cabrini Health.

“We’ve been working steadily on the project over the past year and aim to make the app widely available in the marketplace once it’s ready,” he said. “Being part of MYMI has been a wonderful experience that’s helped me to improve my technical skills as well as my soft skills, and is helping me grow into a better person overall.”

For future students interested in studying biomedical engineering at Monash, Sriram highly recommends getting involved in teams such as MYMI. “I’ve found it’s improved my overall learning experience in my field and beyond.”
