International Student of the Year – Research

International Student of the Year 1

Monash University students and staff have been recognised across several categories at the Victorian International Education Awards 2025, celebrating the contributions international learners make to Victoria’s academic, cultural and research communities.

A PhD graduate from Monash Engineering and current Research Fellow in Monash Information Technology, we congratulate Siyuan Yan who has been named International Student of the Year – Research.

His submission was based on his doctoral research, completed within Engineering and supported through cross-faculty collaboration with IT. Recognised for ground breaking doctoral research transforming melanoma detection by bridging AI innovation and clinical dermatology, Siyuan's supervisor Associate Professor Zongyuan Ge (pictured) accepted the award on his behalf.

The Victorian Government also announced the Student Ambassador of the Year, awarded to Monash student Storm Hor.

Recognition of Monash students extended further to two industry category awards: Excellence in Transnational Education and International Partnerships, and Excellence in International Student Accommodation. These awards are offered just once every two years, making the honours especially significant.
