Monash and DFCCIL partner to advance heavy haul railway innovation

MoU signing Ravi

Monash Institute of Railway Technology (IRT) and the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on advancing heavy haul railway engineering in India and Australia.

The agreement, signed by Professor Professor Ravi Ravitharan, Director of IRT and Sri G D Bhagwani, DFCCIL Executive Director (Asset Management), with support from the Austrade South Asia | Australian Trade and Investment Commission, will foster joint research, training, and technical development.

The partnership will explore opportunities to establish a Centre of Excellence in Rail Maintenance - including wheel-rail interface management - and deliver translational research to support India’s growing freight corridor network.

Professor Ravitharan said the collaboration draws on Australia’s globally recognised expertise in heavy haul systems. “This agreement will support technical and research engagement which will benefit India’s new heavy haul railways - ensuring their longevity, sustainability and improved efficiencies.”
