Elizabeth Croft The Faculty of Engineering at Monash University is ambitious. Currently externally ranked as the top faculty in Australia, our ambition is much greater and our horizon internationally-focused. We are striving to make societal advances that contribute to solving world challenges in food, water, energy, disease and infrastructure. We recognise that as a faculty we are a global player and will be judged on how we compare to, and collaborate with, world leading institutions and organisations at all levels.

Monash Engineering has a wonderful body of academic staff who are researching many of the key areas of our time. Many of these areas are captured by our three cross-faculty research institutes in medical engineering, energy and resources, and infrastructure. The range and depth of skills we have is significant and the facilities excellent. New, multidisciplinary platforms, are being developed to bring together a range of themes, research groups and personnel, creating the basis for further success. We are looking to grow our academic numbers, and continue to seek and encourage the best academics in the world – new and experienced – to join us. We want to increase our breadth and assist in producing critical mass and depth.

Monash’s Faculty of Engineering invites outstanding academics to join our committed team.

Monash is in the top 100 universities globally and a founding member of Australia's Group of Eight - the most research intensive universities in the country. Today, Monash Engineering ranks as the number one faculty in Australia for engineering and technology (Times Higher Education, 2017-2018). We presently have 152 academic staff, and 110+ research only staff and 800+ PhD students supporting our research. We’re renowned world-wide for the quality of our teaching and research, and the calibre of our graduates.

Opportunities

The Faculty will be investing over $15 million in new appointments over the next three years. We are seeking to appoint candidates to fill academic positions across all levels from Professor to Lecturer, to enrich cooperation and collaboration within and between departments as well as with complimentary faculties. Specifically Engineering are looking to recruit into:

  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Functional Materials
  • Smart Manufacturing
  • Smart Systems (Construction / Infrastructure / Agriculture/Transport)
  • Structural Materials

Whilst these areas are of particular interest, exceptional candidates from all disciplines will be considered as will practice appointments.

Significant investment is planned over the next few years which will include expenditure of over $250 million, including $165 million on a new Technology, Education and Design (TED) building.

Monash sits at the centre of Melbourne’s innovation precinct.  Bringing together world-class, cross-disciplinary teams to develop disruptive, breakthrough technology, at the Woodside Innovation Centre, Australian Synchrotron, and the CSIRO.  In addition to access to a number of major hospitals nearby the Victorian government is building the Victorian Heart Hospital (VHH) on Monash’s Clayton campus. An Australian-first heart hospital, bringing together the world’s best in cardiovascular care, research and training.
