Fee Payment Extension

Eligibility

  • Students must demonstrate extreme financial hardship
  • Students in their first semester of study at Monash University are not eligible to defer their fees
  • Applications must be made prior to the due date of payment shown on the Enrolment Details and Fee Statement

Fee Payment Extension Available

  • Up to twenty (20) working days
  • In extreme circumstances, eg events in a student's home country or personal family trauma, a maximum extension period of sixty (60) working days may be approved by the Fee Extension Review Panel
  • A student in the final semester of his/her course, experiencing extreme financial hardship, may be permitted a longer period in which to complete payment of tuition fees
  • NOTE: If a extension for payment is granted, this applies to the payment of your fees only. The ability to add/drop units and other University/Government timelines associated with payment of fees and changes to enrolment will still remain the same.

To Apply

Monash College Students

Commencing November 2008 Monash College students will follow the same process as Monash University students when applying for a Fee Payment Extension. Monash College student please follow the instructions as indicated below.

For current tri-semester 2 Monash College students still must apply in writing to mcfees@mcgroup.monash.edu.au

Monash University Students

  1. Go to your my.monash portal
  2. Select the Web Enrolment System (WES) Link
  3. Select the Fees Link
  4. Select Apply for Fees Payment Extensions
  5. Students will be notified by email, to their student email address, of the outcome of the request to extend their tuition fee payment within 5 working days.

Non Payment of Fees

Non payment of fees beyond the nominated extension date will result in an encumbrance being applied which will block access to nominated University facilities and services, such as internet and library.

Fee Payment Extension Appeals

If your application for a fee payment extension was rejected you may lodge a Fee Payment Extensions Appeal Form

This form can be submitted:          

  • In person – at the Student Service Centre on your campus
  • By fax – (03) 9905 3263
  • By mail – Monash University, Fees Unit, Building 3C, Clayton, VIC 3800, Australia

Students will be notified by email, to their student email address, of the outcome of the request to extend their tuition fee payment within 10 working days.

Unsuccessful Appeals Procedure

This appeals process is applicable only to a student seeking a fees extension with a fee amount greater than $1000 whose application for an extension has been rejected.

The student should write to the:

The student must be able to demonstrate that exceptional and abnormal circumstances exists and that all sources of obtaining financial support to pay fees have been exhausted.

The panel will take into consideration the student's ability to repay fees, the student's course progress and results and the student's payment record.
