MSMH Digitisation event a success with industry!

The recent Monash Smart Manufacturing Hub (MSMH) Digitisation event gave our industry guests the opportunity to engage with Monash Digital Twin and Data Visualisation experts to discover how these technologies can help optimise their manufacturing efficiencies.

The event was attended by current partners, new industry contacts and representatives from industry and government bodies including Breakthrough Victoria, South East Melbourne Manufacturing Association (SEMMA) and Melbourne's North Advanced Manufacturing Group (MNAMG).

"I attended the MSMH Digitisation event to connect my manufacturing clients with Monash University and hear about the latest research and advances in manufacturing,” said Mary Jakobenov, Manager, Melbourne's North Advanced Manufacturing Group (MNAMG). “The highlight of the event was touring the state of the art facilities and learning about the research capabilities which will benefit manufacturers. It was particularly good to see the Digital Twin Lab up close. The possible applications to manufacturing innovation are endless."

"The Digital Twin technology that we are offering to businesses through the Monash Smart Manufacturing Hub will enable them to create a virtual digital twin of their physical machinery to provide a risk free environment to investigate manufacturing faults, improve efficiencies and processes before investing in the actual physical technology,” explained Dr Yunlong Tang, Digital Twin Lab Manufacturing Lead.

Guests were treated to a guided tour of the Digital Twin Lab (DTL) where Monash experts demonstrated AI based detection algorithms used in in-situ monitoring for manufacturing, aimed at detecting failures in real-time. This incorporated a showcase of the augmented reality techniques that make human-machine interaction much easier. "The key benefits of our Digital Twin Lab (DTL) are the connections at three levels: the connection among all robots and hardware, the connection between the physical lab and its digital duplicate, and the connection between the DTL and humans." said Associate Professor Chao Chen, Digital Twin Lab Robotics Lead.

Guests also visited the Data Visualisation and Immersive Analytics Lab (DVIA Lab) and discovered first hand how this technology can help businesses improve decision-making by visualising important data in a more meaningful way through the use of AR and VR.

The event concluded with a tour of the Monash Makerspace, home to the talented student teams including Monash Motorsport (MMS), Monash Nova Rover(MNR) and Monash High Powered Rocketry (MHPR). "Seeing the creativity and talent of the students in action on projects in the Makerspace really helped me understand how they could be an asset to any business." said Mary Jakobenov.

"It was good to meet so many representatives from the manufacturing industry and give them a glimpse of the technology and talent that is available to them through the MSMH. We look forward to furthering these relationships and welcoming business partners onto campus next year." said Professor Adrian Neild, Interim Director, Monash Smart Manufacturing Hub.
