Monash Engineering congratulates Professor Ha H. Bui - Head of Monash Civil and Environmental Engineering - on being awarded the 2025 Chandrakant S. Desai Excellence Medal by the International Association for Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics (IACMAG), presented at the 17th IACMAG Conference in Hong Kong.

This prestigious international honour recognises individuals who have made exceptional and sustained contributions to research and education in geomechanics.

The medal honours work spanning constitutive modelling, testing, computational methods, and their application to geomechanics, with particular recognition given to innovative and non-traditional approaches that integrate fundamental theory with practical relevance, multidisciplinary thinking, and the integration of research and teaching.

Presented every three to four years, IACMAG awards recognise global leaders who have shaped the field of geomechanics. This recognition reflects Professor Bui’s standing as an international leader and represents a proud moment for Monash University and the broader engineering community.

Professor Bui says: “I am honoured to receive this recognition and grateful to my students, collaborators and colleagues who have made this journey possible.”
