Honouring an outstanding academic leader

Professor Chris Davies, Deputy Dean of Operations at Monash Engineering has been named to the Monash Honour Roll at last night's Vice-Chancellor's Excellence Awards.
The Honour Roll recognises the University’s most outstanding academic leaders who generously share their expertise, mentor colleagues and drive excellence in research, education and collaboration.
A metallurgist by training, Professor Davies joined Monash in 1994 after completing his PhD at Imperial College London and postdoctoral research in Canada.
Over 30 years, he has established himself as a leading researcher in light metals, contributing seminal work and playing a key role in initiatives such as the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence for Design in Light Metals.
Chris has held numerous leadership roles, including Head of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering; Associate Dean of Research; Deputy Dean of External Engagement; Interim Dean of Engineering and currently serves as Deputy Dean, Operations. His leadership has been pivotal during major transitions, including consolidating Engineering programs from Gippsland to Clayton and guiding the Faculty through the COVID-19 pandemic.
As President of the Academic Board (2016–2019), he helped shape Monash’s educational quality and governance, while mentoring generations of academics and fostering a culture of collegiality and excellence.
Chris’ legacy is deeply woven into the fabric of Monash University and he is widely respected for his integrity, humour and unwavering commitment to the University.
