Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number
If you started your course on or after 1 January 2021, you’ll need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) instead of a Commonwealth Higher Education Student Number (CHESSN).
Students who started before 2021
A Commonwealth Higher Education Student Number (CHESSN) is a 10-digit number provided by the Australian Government, to all students who are in receipt of a:
- Commonwealth supported place (CSP)
- HELP loan (HECS, FEE, SA, OS)
- Commonwealth Learning Scholarship.
Used by all higher education providers, a CHESSN is a unique, lifelong identifier that allows you to view the details of your Commonwealth-assisted study (including any HELP debts incurred).
Your CHESSN is on your Commonwealth Assistance Notice. This Notice is available in the Web Enrolment System (WES) by 28 days after the census date. To view information on how much Commonwealth assistance you have received, login to myHELPbalance.
