2020–2022 Temporary grading system in response to COVID-19
From 2020 to 2022, Monash University introduced a modified grading scale system in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This allowed students to exclude eligible units from their GPA/CGPA and WAM calculations by applying NSR to failed units and SFR to units with a passing grade.
Masters awarded with distinction
From 6 October 2021, students graduating with a master’s degree by coursework with a WAM of 80 or above will see Awarded with distinction on their official academic record (transcript), award certificate (testamur) and Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS).

NEED DESCRIPTION
Satisfied Faculty Requirements
A pass grade used for study abroad, exchange, and complementary study units when Monash has not taught and assessed the unit. The mark provided by the other institution is not recorded.
SFR was also used in eligible teaching periods during 2020–2022 to allow students to exclude units with a passing grade from their GPA/CGPA and WAM calculations. This was in recognition of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their studies.
Withdrawn
You withdrew from this unit after the census date and before the Withdrawn Fail period.
Withheld
The assessment marking is incomplete and a final grade has not yet been determined. This could be because:
- you have an extension to finish outstanding assessment tasks
- you haven’t finished all your assessments
- the host institution for your Study Abroad or complementary units hasn't yet submitted your results from your time overseas
- you have a pending academic misconduct investigation
- your assessment is still being marked and your final unit result will be updated shortly.
Withdrawn Incomplete
This grade is awarded based on extreme circumstances beyond your control, occuring or taking effect after the Withdrawn Fail period, and you weren’t able to complete all assessments for the unit. The WI grade is not a passing grade because you haven’t completed the requirements of the unit. Unlike the other fail grades, the WI is not included in your GPA calculation.
Withdrawn Fail
You withdrew from this unit between the start of the Withdrawn Fail period and the end of the teaching period.
