Student orientation and study support using NotebookLM

About this example

Staff regularly observed a familiar pattern in the opening weeks of the semester: students are handed a large volume of complex material, assessment guides, technical standards, and sustainability frameworks, and expected to make sense of it quickly. These are not simple readings; they are dense, professional documents. The issue for many students was not motivation but orientation. They did not yet know what each document was for, how they connected, or how they related to their assessments. This prompted us to explore whether NotebookLM could be used to create an  intentionally designed learning repository/space that can help students engage with unit materials and gain confidence to engage in the unit.
