Shanti Sumartojo attends the UN #AiforGood summit in Geneva
Last week Associate Professor Shanti Sumartojo attended the UN's #AIforGood summit in Geneva as a delegate of the Monash Data Futures Institute.

Of the experience to attend, Shanti Sumartojo said the following:
The event was an invaluable opportunity to hear from governments and policymakers, other academics, NGOs and big industry players about the promise and potential pitfalls of AI. There is a lot of really interesting work that AI is being put to, especially by small NGOs delivering projects at a local scale. There is also a lot of concern about the right policy settings for AI and nervousness about corporate 'regulatory capture'.
I came away with renewed commitment to focus on the contexts in which AI - and any other technology - touch the world. What other practices, habits, values, meanings and ecologies does it become a part of? What does it shift, but what also remains unchanged? This is a core interest for me and many of my colleagues in the Emerging Technologies Research Lab, Monash University .
