Melisa Duque returns to ETLab as FUTURES Hub Research Fellow

Dr Melisa Duque has returned to the Emerging Technologies Research Lab as a Research Fellow in FUTURES Hub.

Having previously graduated with a PhD from RMIT University, Melisa joined the ETLab in 2019 working across a range of research projects including ‘E-Waste Futures’,‘Design for Welllbeing’, ‘The living Lab’ ‘Intelligent home solutions for independent living’, ‘City sensing data futures’ before taking a up a position at University of Auckland in 2023.

She is featured in the ethnographic film Smart Homes for Seniors and co-authored Design Ethnography: Research, Responsibilities and Futures (Routledge, 2022). Her book, Designing Homeliness: Everyday Practices of Care,  was released in October 2024.

Melisa’s research expertise combines Design Anthropology, Participatory Design, and Everyday Design, focusing on collaborative repair, reuse, and promoting intergenerational wellbeing.

Melisa holds a PhD from RMIT, a Master’s from Monash, and is trained as an Industrial Designer at Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Colombia. She has taught design at multiple universities.

Melisa joins FUTURES Hub which is led by Sarah Pink's ARC Laureate Fellowship, 'The Impact of Future Human Values and Practices on Australia's Digital and Net Zero Transitions'. It is also the meeting point for our related futures focused work of ETLab and our FUTURES community of engaged scholars and partners from industry, government, not-for-profit and other sectors.
