Yolande Strengers appointed associate dean of equity, diversity and inclusion in the faculty of IT

Yolande Strengers has been appointed Associate Dean for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I), within the Faculty of Information Technology (FIT). This role will provide leadership of the development, implementation, review and reform of equity and diversity initiatives that create and promote an inclusive environment for all staff and students.

Yolande Strengers brings a wealth of experience to this role. She currently Chairs the Faculty's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee. She is a sociologist with a track record of research in this area and has helped organisations to understand and implement cultural change. Yolande has a strong vision for this critically important Faculty initiative, which includes positioning the FIT as a global leader on ED&I matters.

Yolande's research investigates how digital technologies are changing how we live and engage with each other. Her focus is on the energy and gender equity outcomes of emerging technologies, such as smart grids, smart homes, digital voice assistants, robots, Telepresence, and artificial intelligence (AI).

Her latest book The Smart Wife: Why Siri, Alexa, and Other Smart Home Devices Need a Feminist Reboot (co-authored with Jenny Kennedy) is due for release in September 2020.
