Benefits of Moodle
Moodle is a versatile platform that has many advantages and can be customised to create a range of learning opportunities. Here are some of the prominent benefits:
- Flexibility: You can customize your unit to support different learning modes, from in person, blended, hybrid or fully online with an array of activities and resources. You can also adjust to create a user-friendly learning environment by creating well structured Moodle unit sites.
- Self-paced learning: Moodle has various tools to create self-paced activities (H5P activities, Moodle lessons, Wikis, etc.) and integrates a range of resources (weblinks, external links, PDFs, images, videos). You can also create quizzing in Moodle and have students self-assess. It is important to create a learning path for students to guide them through the Moodle unit.
- Collaborative learning: There are a number of ways that you can create collaborative learning opportunities in Moodle. You can use forums, group assignments, wikis, and integrate other tools such as Perusall, Zoom and MS Teams.
- Feedback: Depending on the activity type, Moodle has built in feedback mechanisms. You can create automated feedback in a Moodle Lesson, Quiz and H5P activity, or you can provide personalized feedback for assignments, forum posts and share marking guides with students.
- Grading and marking: All grades should be added to Moodle. Moodle has activities with grade settings and assessment tasks that you can link to the Gradebook. You can also add manual grade items and set up hurdles. You have the ability to see and manage all students' grades in one location.
- Analytics and reporting: Moodle gathers information about student interactions, behaviours and activities that can be analysed to develop interventions for your students and improve learning resources.
