This unit will be delivered with a combination of online, in the lab, workshop and field trip work. The online component is designed in Moodle with a Weekly structure. Each week, the Learning journey will display how many essential tasks are required in each area. This allows you to keep track of your progress.
We focus on active learning which means that there are activities throughout the online material where you may need to interact in a number of different ways. For example, discuss or complete quizzes and reflection questions.
There is a weekly Workshop time (2 hours), two field trips and six Experiment/Lab classes. The information in Moodle will provide a short summary for what will happen at these times and provide Lab manual segments and links to relevant material. A hard copy of the lab manual will be available for pick-up in Week 1. Each field trip and experiment have their own Learning section.
The first field trip is in Week 3 and the second in Week 9. The work on the field trips form part of the assessment requirements.
Communications are primarily through attendance at the Workshops. These workshops are not recorded so attendance is critical. There are also discussion forums available in Moodle which the teaching staff will monitor. Student interaction in the forums is encouraged with other students. The contact details of the Unit Coordinator and other teaching staff appear in Moodle in the Contacts area.
Assessment details can be found in the Assessments tab in Moodle. The details and supporting information and resources can be found within the Learning sections. The Moodle Schedule shows you the weekly outline and what additional work is required.
