International Ambassador Program

We’re looking for Monash international students, currently studying at any of our four Australian campuses, to join our University Marketing and Communications (UMAC) International Ambassador Program.

The program connects prospective students with our ambassadors, so they can hear directly from current students what it's like to study at Monash.

Our ambassadors support webinars, University-wide events such as Open Day, campus tours and other exciting events. We also create videos, testimonials, blogs and various social media content featuring our ambassadors to share online.

The International Ambassador Program gives you a great opportunity to develop your employability soft skills and gain experience for your resume – all while sharing your personal journey at Monash and in Australia.

We ask our ambassadors to engage with the program for at least 12 months, which may extend, in some cases, beyond graduation. Start times are flexible.

Taking part in the International Ambassador Program brings lots of benefits:

  • a Certificate of Completion to verify your participation
  • references and/or endorsements of specific skills (e.g. public speaking, leadership, teamwork and communication)
  • an opportunity to meet and work with various faculty staff on recruitment initiatives
  • sharpening your communication and relationship-building skills
  • an invitation to join an exclusive annual celebration.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the International Ambassador Program, you need to:

  • be an international student
  • be currently studying at a Monash campus in Australia
  • have a WAM of at least 60.

We’re seeking student ambassadors with:

  • strong communication skills
  • a desire to share personal story and help others
  • ability to speak positively about Monash and Australia
  • a friendly, caring approach and a willingness to go above and beyond
  • a sound academic record
  • an excellent work-study-life balance
  • ideally previous experience relevant to events, public speaking, teamwork and communicating with prospective or current students.

How to apply

Selene Yeo, Bachelor of Nutrition Science (Scholars Program) 2019 and Master of Dietetics 2021

Selene Yeo Becoming an international student ambassador was one of the biggest highlights of my time at Monash. It gave me the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone, strengthen my interpersonal skills and experience a whole range of new things. Filming a video. Being a panellist in webinars. Representing the University across multiple events. But best of all was meeting like-minded people and giving back to the Monash community. If I could do it all over again, I sure would!”

Steven Khoa Hoang, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) 2020

Steven Hoang I was an ambassador for more than a year. The International Ambassador Program gave me the rare opportunity to sit alongside the Dean of Engineering on an information panel for international VCE students. It also gave me a chance to act as an ambassador for Monash Open Day. I represented the Faculty of Engineering, running workshops for prospective Engineering students. It was rewarding to be part of an inclusive program like this. I thoroughly enjoyed giving advice to prospective students. And this helped me with my presentation skills. I would highly recommend the Ambassador Program to other students. This is a place for you to meet like-minded students. Try to participate as soon as possible – don’t be a late joiner like me."

Urvi Bharania, Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences 2021

Urvi Bharania Being an International Student Ambassador has been an extremely rewarding aspect of my journey in university. This experience involved providing support to current and upcoming international students in their journey towards and within university. Along the way, I had a myriad of opportunities to develop networks with like-minded students and staff, polish my interpersonal and professional skills such as communication and time management, as well as to be an integral part of Monash University. Some of the events included organising campus tours for students, providing testimonials for prospective students, and assisting with webinars targeted towards providing support to international students in the application process. It is these opportunities and the resultant growth from these, that have enhanced my university experience and prepared me for similar leadership opportunities in the future. The welcoming and appreciative nature of all the staff involved and the enthusiasm of prospective students made this program even more enjoyable and rewarding. Overall, this experience has taught me the importance of seeking and getting involved in opportunities within university to support others and to build yourself as an individual. I highly encourage all students, current and prospective, to take the leap and try out as many new things as possible. It’s what makes university life worth it!

Tam Ngo Being an international ambassador is hands-down one of my best experiences at Monash. Not only did I meet and learn from outstanding like-minded students, I also had a chance to work with the student recruitment team at Monash, which significantly enhanced my sense of belonging to the university’s community. During the past two years, I was able to inspire and help prospective students find their right pathways at Monash by participating in webinars and hosting the Science Virtual Campus tour. I used to be a very shy first-year student, but my communication and interpersonal skills have improved tremendously, thanks to this opportunity. All in all, this was a very rewarding experience and was a chance for me to give back to the Monash community. I would highly recommend participating in this program if you are interested in helping people or just seeking to enrich your uni life.

Yintong (Yentl) Liu, Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce 2022

Yingtong Liu I joined the International Ambassador Program in 2021 during Covid while studying alone. This program brought me back to human interactions, which were long due from lockdowns. Through participating in events such as Monash Open Day, I gained hands-on stakeholder engagement experience by liaising with the Monash International Student Recruitment Team, international education agents, and current and future students. The outstanding Monash Recruitment Team supported me throughout the process by encouraging me to adopt and develop my way of communicating with potential stakeholders. Particularly, I would like to acknowledge the support from Julia Ly, my coordinator, who has built my confidence significantly by being an awesome advocate. For those reasons, I would highly recommend this program to international students. If you are looking for a supportive team on a flexible program, this is the right one to go for. :)

Tram Le, Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) and Master of Pharmacy 2024

Portrait of Tram LeThree years ago, I came to Melbourne by myself, without any connections. It was overwhelming at first, but thanks to the kindness of strangers who helped me settle in, I quickly found my footing. Their support inspired me to give back through this program, offering guidance to students who might face similar challenges. I was happy to be a part of a webinar recently, together with other three Monash students, to share my journey and experience at the university. Even though I’m  a new member of the Ambassador team, I could already broaden my network beyond Parkville campus - where the Pharmacy faculty is based – and got introduced to a variety of Flagship Rich Educational Experiences at Monash. The communication and time management skills I’ve gained from this program will also support me in my future internship applications. I would highly recommend this program to any international students as what you get is way more than what you offer!

Audrey Lim, Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine 2026

Portrait of Audrey LimBeing part of the Student Ambassador Program has been a really rewarding experience for me. It’s given me the opportunity to connect with prospective students, share my journey into medicine, and hopefully make the transition to university feel a little less daunting for others. Some of the most meaningful moments have been having honest conversations with students about their questions, concerns, and aspirations, and seeing their excitement grow as they learn more about what’s possible. The program has also helped me develop my confidence, communication skills, and sense of leadership while working alongside a passionate and supportive team. I would definitely encourage other students to get involved, as it’s a great way to meet people, give back to the university community, and grow both personally and professionally.
