Kwok-Schuelein Laboratory

Microbial Oncogenesis

Welcome to the Kwok-Schuelein Lab

Our lab is interested in using a multi-disciplinary approach to understand the pathogenesis of Helicobacter-associated malignancies.

We're part of the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute, and a member of the Infection and Cancer Programs, and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Microbiology.

Our research

Helicobacter pylori (Hp) is a prototype of a cancer-inducing pathogen. This bacterium colonises persistently in the human stomach, causing chronic gastritis and gastric cancer in susceptible individuals. The molecular basis of how Helicobacter infection progresses into cancers however remains largely a mystery, one our lab wants to uncover.
