Back for 2016

WinterFest is back at Monash for 2016! See uni life in a new light during a week of events and activities across campuses. Be part of the action as we celebrate everything fun about a brisk Melbourne winter.


Monday 8 August

carDrive-in Cinema Premiere Night

Did you know we used to have a classic drive-in cinema in Clayton? We're bringing the drive-in night back, now with a variety of delicious food trucks and an array of films. Bring your friends and family, and remember, the drive in is more than just movies; it's about starry nights, cruisin' in and dining out!

mental healthShine a Light on Mental Health

An inspiring night of musical performances and powerful stories at our Caulfield campus, shining a light on mental health in our diverse community. Hosted by the hilarious Diana Nguyen (of NAKED and Phi and Me fame), the event will feature reflections from:

  • former Australian of the Year Professor Patrick McGorry AO,
  • writer and author (High Sobriety: My Year Without Booze) Jill Stark, and
  • mental health advocate and President of the Monash University International Student Service Karekhaa Nayar.

There’ll also be a host of performances from the Mel O' Neill Quintet, Joel McKerrow, Natasha Weatherhill, the Monash University Sri Lankan Cultural Club and others.

Tuesday 9 August

comedy nightComedy Night

Prepare to cry with laughter with the line-up for the WinterFest Comedy Night. The hilarious Dave Thornton from Fox Fm’s breakfast show and ABC’s Upper Middle Bogan will be joined by breakout comedian Luke McGregor for a night of rich laughs for a cheap price. Performing alongside will be an array of up-and-coming student comedians led by Doug Chappel and David Rose.

home aloneDrive-In Cinema (Day 2)

The classic flick Home Alone, starring a young Macaulay Culkin, will be the second film to feature in the drive-in cinema series. Bring your family and friends to see what eight-year old Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) gets up to when his parents mistakenly leave him at home before a family vacation.

winter feastWinter Feast

It’s a night of premium entertainment, appetising food, a silent auction and a celebration of National Student Volunteer week to recognise our wonderful volunteers who give up their time to benefit others. Funds raised at the dinner will also go toward Melbourne City Mission, Launch Housing, and STREAT.

love actuallyDrive-In Movie (Day 3)

The third and final Drive-In Movie day brings your last chance for the year to catch romantic classic Love Actually at this historic site and food trucks to warm up your night.

Thursday 11 August

snow partySnow Party

The Snow Party is back for WinterFest and promises to be bigger and better than ever before. The Monash Sport Games Hall will undergo a winter transformation for the biggest on-campus party of the semester. Come party in style with a snow machine, a high-rise stage featuring the best student DJs to create a great party atmosphere.

Time: 9pm - 1am (10pm lockout)
Location: Monash Sport, Clayton campus
Tickets: $20 student, $25 non-students

Event is 18+ and is open to students and friends from all campuses.

Day 5

light up the nightLet It Glow

A free event for all. Come on down to our spectacular WinterFest finale, Let it Glow featuring the Light Up the Night Fun Walk/Run. Join in on a night filled with food trucks, family entertainment, rides, activities, ending with show-stopping fireworks.  An event not to be missed, even the cold won’t bother you anyway!

Light Up the Night Fun Walk/Run

Run, walk, dance or skip your way around the new 1km Monash Circuit. We’ll transform the circuit with light and neon-coloured paint for a sea of colour around Monash Sport. With motivating tunes to keep you going and plenty of action along the way, bring your friends and help Light Up the Night!

Date: Friday 12 August
(Arrive at 5pm for registration. The walk/run starts at a 6pm)

leadershipMonash Student Leadership Summit 2016

This all-day event explores the nature and importance of leadership in the 21st century and will help students to identify triumphs, challenges and opportunities for leadership through a dynamic series of keynotes, workshops and facilitated discussions.

southern lightsPop-up events

Southern Lights featuring Tyson Kraft

Dates: 8 - 10 August with a special live performance by Tyson 8 August
Venue: Green Chemical Futures Building, 13 Rainforest Walk
Times: 5-8pm (live show Monday August 8)

Come and view this spectacular show of light, sound and movement. The light show will feature an array of different lights moving to the sound of student DJ Tyson Kraft.

escape roomEscape Room

Dates: 8-12 August

Times: 4pm - 9pm

Brought to you by Escape Room Melbourne, the infamous live puzzle game is coming to Monash this WinterFest. The task is to solve a series of challenging and inventive puzzles in order to escape from the mystery room. Teams of 5-6. Student bookings for the Escape Room via Eventbrite. Staff bookings can be made via the Staff Development website.

cafe hubWinterFest Cafe Hub

Dates: 8-12 August
Venue: Science Precinct
Times: 11am - 3pm

We're working with St ALi to bring you hot coffee and warming soup to escape the cold weather this winter. There will also be a marshmallow roasting station to help bring back your childhood memories.

MADA student showcase

Dates: 8-12 August
Venue: Northern Plaza

Monash Art Design and Architecture will be showcasing student artwork throughout WinterFest on the Northern Plaza screen. See all the talented and quality displays that students have completed this semester.

MSA Art Comp

The MSA art committee are running a student art competition to be presented throughout WinterFest. The theme is Winter Inspired Illustrations and Portraits and prizes will be awarded for first, second and third. Entries close on July 22, head to the MSA website for more details.

The MUST Cabaret Festival

The Monash Uni Student Theatre Cabaret Festival will provide an engine room and showcase for surprising works of all genres featuring talent from in and around MUST, including some very special guests!
