Big Blue Showdown brings victory to Clayton campus
Clayton campus came alive last night as students gathered for The Big Blue Showdown, the latest chapter in the annual Monash v Melbourne varsity rivalry – and Team Monash delivered a dominant victory.

With a packed outdoor precinct, live sport and a buzzing festival atmosphere, hundreds of students came together to cheer on Team Monash across hockey, tennis, touch rugby, ultimate frisbee and soccer, helping power an incredible seven-game win over Melbourne!
On the field, Team Monash put on a commanding display, with standout results across the night, including:
Men’s Soccer: 3-2 Monash
Women’s Soccer: 11-0 Monash
Men’s Tennis: 3-2 Monash
Women’s Tennis: 3-2 Monash
Men’s Hockey: 1-4 Melbourne
Women’s Touch Rugby: 5-2 Monash
Men’s Touch Rugby: 10-4 Monash
Mixed Ultimate Frisbee: 15-10 Monash
From the opening whistle to the final points scored, Team Monash showcased exceptional talent, determination and competitive spirit. Across every match, our student-athletes rose to the occasion – delivering standout performances, securing a memorable night of Big Blue success, and levelling out the scores with nine wins all as the campaign continues.
But the energy extended far beyond the field. The cheers from the sidelines, the sea of blue across the precinct and the unwavering support from students created an electric atmosphere that fuelled every moment of competition.
Beyond the sport, students enjoyed free food, music, giveaways and fan activations, transforming Clayton into a vibrant celebration of Monash pride and community spirit.
The Big Blue Varsity Challenge is more than just competition, it’s a celebration of connection, belonging and student life, bringing students together to support their peers and create unforgettable campus moments.
