Monash joins the University Basketball League in 2026

Monash is proud to be joining the New Balance University Basketball League (UBL) in 2026, bringing a whole new game-day atmosphere to campus and uniting our students, staff and broader community.

From August to October, Monash will compete against 13 other universities from across Australia in this national basketball league. For our students, that means free home games at Clayton and Peninsula, big crowds, music, food, entertainment and a new reason to get involved in campus life.

This is not just for basketball players. It’s for all students.

If you want more fun on campus, more ways to meet people, and more reasons to feel part of the Monash community, UBL is for you. Attend matches with friends, enjoy the atmosphere and be part of something exciting during the semester. You can also sign up to Team Monash for early access to games, exclusive giveaways and newly released merch, and additional opportunities to get involved.

Want to be part of the action?

  • Try out for a varsity team.
  • Gain real-world work experience in live sport, media and events.
  • Volunteer with content creation and game-day activations.

So whether you play, support or create, this is your moment to show up and get involved. Plus, every match will be live-streamed so you can watch from anywhere and throw your support behind Team Monash.

The UBL also builds on increasingly-strong demand for competitive basketball at Monash. In 2025, 29 students represented the University in varsity basketball events including UniSport competitions and the Big Blue Varsity Challenge. This year, 31 students are already competing, with more events still to come.

Recent Big Blue matches against the University of Melbourne showed strong results, with Monash’s women’s team winning by one point in a thrilling match, and the men’s team pushing their game into overtime but unfortunately falling short by just 6 points.

With four home games and interstate match-ups planned, our inaugural UBL season is set to bring new energy to the student experience.

More details, including fixtures and how to get involved, will be shared soon so watch this space. Be there. Be loud. Be Team Monash!
