Our inaugural thought leadership festival

The Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts was abuzz with conversation on Friday night, as Monash hosted its inaugural thought leadership festival, Learn. Lead. Change.

The evening began with a Welcome to Country by Boonwurrung elder Aunty Carolyn Briggs, and a performance by the innovative Indigenous group, The Merindas.

Monash experts Jacob Thomas, Bailey Webb, Dr Susie Ho, Lloyd Gordon, Jamil Tye and Professor Sharon Pickering took to the stage at the Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts to facilitate electric discussions on some of the most pressing issues of our time.

Dr Paul Liknaitzky, Professor Jon McCormack, Priyanka Arora, spoke alongside former Miss Universe Australia, Maria Thattil, who hosted the conversation in The Count’s.

Throughout the night, our experts and guests explored a range of topics from crypto, NFTs and blockchain to gender-based violence, the future of news to the psychedelic renaissance.

Guest speakers included:

  • Sexologist, Chantelle Otten, and Bumble’s APAC Communications Director, Lucille McCart
  • Campaigners against family violence, Kristy McKellar and Tarang Chawla
  • Former AFL footballer and investor, Chris Judd, and Founder and CEO of Collective Shift, Ben Simpson
  • Writer and feminist thinker, Clementine Ford, and author, Sarah Wilson
  • Author, Thomas Mayor
  • Channel 7 state political reporter, Sharnelle Vella, and The Betoota Advocate’s, Wendell Hussey

The event was praised for the wide-range of topics discussed and the thought-provoking discussions generated, especially on those subjects that are traditionally difficult to talk about.

“[Monash University] lean in to what’s topical socially, take risks, engage current and relevant figures that their students want to hear from and create a brilliant environment to nurture leaders who will challenge the status quo,” said Maria Thattil via LinkedIn.

If you missed out, look out for future thought leadership events. Learn. Lead. Change. was just the beginning!
