Unstoppable spirit: Monash wins at UniSport National Championships
Monash pride was on full display at the 2025 multi-sport UniSport National Championships (Uni Nationals), where 376 Monash student athletes took to the Gold Coast to compete against Australia’s best. Their effort, passion and camaraderie paid off, with Monash once again claiming the Spirit of the South Award for the third consecutive year and delivering a series of exceptional sporting results.
In total, 36 Monash teams represented the University across a week of fierce competition, earning a medal tally of 4 Championship pennants, 13 gold, 9 silver and 23 bronze. Among the standout performances, Monash’s Men’s Judo team secured back-to-back national championships, cementing their reputation as one of the University’s most dominant sporting squads.
Beyond Uni Nationals, 2025 has been a golden year for varsity sport at Monash, with gold medals on the ski slopes, cross-country track, volleyball at the Indigenous Nationals, and in the swimming pool - reflecting the depth and diversity of athletic talent across the University.
Monash Sport Director Brett Lavale said the results reflect more than just athletic skill.
“These achievements highlight the incredible commitment, teamwork and spirit of our student athletes. Whether they’re representing Monash on the national stage or training on campus, they embody the values of resilience, respect and pride that define our University," he said.
"I look forward to seeing how our elite programs and student athletes continue to grow and succeed in 2026," he added.
Monash Sport continues to support student athletes through its Varsity and Elite Performer Support Program, ensuring that high-performing students can balance study, training and competition while representing the University at the highest level.
