On-Campus Accommodation Encumbrance
Students living in on-campus accommodation sign an agreement regarding the amount and payment of their accommodation charges. Students who have outstanding accommodation debts will have an encumbrance applied. Please refer to the residential services manager for your residence to find out at what point the encumbrance is activated.
This Encumbrance Will Stop
- library borrowing and other library services
- access to Monash University's computer system
- access to enrolment records, examination results and academic transcripts
- graduation
To Lift an Encumbrance
- The student must pay the outstanding amount owing to Monash Residential Services.
- Monash Residential Services notifies the Fees Section to remove the encumbrance.
- When notification is received and payment confirmed, it will take approximately forty-eight hours (during the working week) for a student's computer access to be reinstated. Please note that payments made on a Friday afternoon, via the phone or internet banking systems will not be received by the University until the following Monday. This will delay restoration of access to services.
