Student Loan Encumbrance
- When a student takes out a student loan, agreement is made that the student will not receive an official academic transcript or be permitted to graduate until the loan is repaid. A low level encumbrance which blocks access to graduation and transcripts is applied. This does NOT affect a student's access to library, computer services or other enrolment or results records.
- If a student defaults on the loan repayment schedule, then the University will, after a reminder is issued, activate a higher level encumbrance which WILL block access to library, computer services, enrolment and results records.

To Lift an Encumbrance
- The student must pay the outstanding instalment payments OR make the final payment.
- Student Loans will remove the encumbrance when payment is received.
- When payment is receipted by Monash University, it will take approximately 2-3 working days for a student's computer access to be reinstated. BPAY payments may take longer for Monash to receipt, this will delay restoration of access to services.
