All student visa application and supporting documentation are to be lodged at the Australian High Commission or Embassy nearest to you for processing. ALA students: please follow the instructions in your scholarship award offer package from AusAID Canberra with regards to your student visa process. Accompanying Family members Monash has a preference for accompanying family members to arrive after the completion of your compulsory 5-weeks Introductory Academic Program (IAP). You are encouraged to travel alone to Australia in the first instance to settle into your studies, familiarise yourself to Australia and to allow yourself sufficient time to organise appropriate accommodation for your family and enrolment for any school age children. Information about child care or schools for your children is available from Monash University Family and Child Care. Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Monash University requires all commencing international students to have visa length OSHC. As an AusAID student, your OSHC has been arranged for you. If you are planning to bring accompanying family members on dependant visa, you must first pay for an upgrade of your single visa length cover to family visa length cover to include your dependants. Airport Reception and/or Temporary Accommodation ADS students: please ensure that your flight details and/or temporary accommodation request are communicated through to the AusAID post in your country to be passed on to Monash for arrangements to be made. ALA students: please refer to our airport reception and/or temporary accommodation information and complete the online booking form. Australian Currency Although you will be receiving an Establishment Allowance, it is recommended that you bring along approximately AUD$300-$500 in cash for your immediate arrival expenses especially if you are arriving on a weekend as the University and banks are not open. Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS) Australia has a unique national environment and important agricultural industries, protected by one of the strictest quarantine systems in the world. AQIS provides quarantine inspection of all arriving passengers and every piece of luggage is screened. Please be aware of all the prohibited items and items that are allowed in to Australia but must be declared to avoid on the spot fine or prosecution. On Arrival Registration On arrival, please report to the Student Service Centre in Building 10 of Clayton campus to register. You must also bring along your passport as a form of identification. You will be given your arrival pack which includes information of your bank account, payment of Establishment Allowance, your IAP registration and program schedule, and other relevant information.
