For your internship to be eligible for an industry experience unit, your host organisation needs to:

• be willing to complete (we’ll contact your host organisation for the following documents as we process your application):
  • a Monash University student placement agreement
  • an OHS Checklist, and
  • a Schedule 1 (we’ll send this to them via DocuSign).
• meet the OHS guidelines outlined in the Monash University Industry Experience Procedure (pdf, 0.26mb).
• have current public liability and professional indemnity insurance
• hold commercial premises (home offices, cafes and private residences don’t count)
• provide an industry experience relevant to your degree that allows you to complete the learning outcomes of your unit (where applicable)
• deliver an industry experience which provides psychosocial and physical safety – it must be free from harassment, exploitation or unsafe working conditions
• complete all necessary forms and evaluations (as requested before, during and after the internship)
• schedule internship start and end dates that align with:
• the relevant teaching periods (where applicable), and
• the required internship hours or days.

When located in locations other than Australia, your host organisation must comply with all of the above and be subject to additional approvals. When located in Australia, your host organisation must comply with all of the above and:

• have an actively registered ABN number
• not be operating as a sole trader (special consideration may be granted under exceptional circumstances), and
• have not been subject to administration, receivership or liquidation in the previous 12 months.

For the best industry experience,we suggest you choose an organisation that:

• has at least five employees
• provides an internship supervisor who has:
• at least a Bachelor's qualification
• three or more years of relevant industry experience, and
• worked for the organisation for at least 12 months
• offers a mix of onsite and working-from-home hours (hybrid model) – spending time in the office interacting with colleagues is important to strengthen professional relationships (though we may accept internships that are fully-virtual in exceptional circumstances)
• is not owned by your family.

Requirements for offshore host organisations

If your host organisation is offshore, you’ll need to provide the following documents in your application:

• the host employment contract (or offer letter) in English
• a copy of their insurance certificate in English for review by the Monash Office of General Counsel.
