Monash students and alumni heading to Paris
Two Monash University students and four alumni are currently in Paris readying themselves for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
The five athletes and one coach will be representing their respective sports and countries in the event which spans 16 days from July 26 to August 11.
Business/Design alumna and 1500m runner Georgia Griffith expressed her gratitude and excitement on her selection to Paris 2024.
“Can’t wait to give it my all,” Griffith posted on her Instagram account.
Fellow 1500m middle-distance runner and Master of Dietetics alumna Linden Hall is proud to be selected for her third Olympics.
“Aussie middle-distance running is on fire right now, and it’s so special to be a part of it,” she said.
“I wouldn’t be able to keep up without the entire village behind me. I have so much love for them all.” Rhythmic gymnast Alexandra Kiroi-Bogatyreva will be competing in her first Olympic Games while juggling her studies as a Monash Law student.
“Sport taught me organisation, patience, and work ethic, which in turn allowed me to compartmentalise study, training, and recovery,” Kiroi-Bogatyreva said.
Race walker and recent Biomedicine graduate Rebecca Henderson is set to compete in her second Olympic Games.
“I've been able to schedule my classes around my key training sessions each week,” Henderson said in a 2021 interview.
“I'm always very busy during the semester with full-time uni and training, but I've been able to cope pretty well so far due to the accommodations Monash is able to make for elite athletes.”
Education graduate Dale Stevenson will be coaching 4 athletes at the Olympics and one at the Paralympics: Matt Denny - Men’s Discus; Jacko Gill - Men’s Shot Put; Lauren Bruce - Women’s Hammer Throw; Ash Moloney - Men’s Decathlon; Paralympics - Guy Henly - Men’s F37 Discus.
