Welcome to Orientation Week! Designed to help students transition smoothly into university life, it's a week filled with excitement, new experiences, and opportunities to make lasting connections.
In addition to Orientation Week, faculty-specific Peer Mentors play a vital role guiding first-year undergraduate students through the early stages of university. Peer Mentors are available to help you navigate this new environment, offering their experiences and advice to ensure a strong start to the university journey.

Here are some of the things Peer Mentors might be able to help with:
Orientation Week events:
- A rundown of events, including Faculty welcome sessions, social activities, campus tours, and core events.
- Encourage students to participate in as many events as possible to meet new people and get acquainted with the university.
Campus layout and facilities:
- Location of key buildings: libraries, lecture halls, student services, cafes, and study areas.
- How to navigate between buildings and labeling of rooms.
Academic resources:
- Importance of attending Faculty sessions.
- Core events: Future Ready, Go Global, and Graduate Industry Evening.
Student support services:
- Overview of student services such as counseling, career advice, academic support, and student clubs.
- How to reach out for help when feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or in need of advice.
Student social life:
- Clubs, societies, and activities that students can join to find like-minded people.
- Local coffee spots, hangout areas, and places to relax around campus.
Health and safety:
- Where the health center is located and the procedure for getting medical help.
- Emergency procedures and who to contact for campus security.
Making new friends:
- Suggest ways to approach people in social settings, join group activities, and use Orientation as an opportunity to meet others.
Using technology:
- How to download and use the student app, student events, digital wayfinding, access online learning platforms, and social media and student newsletter for communication and updates.
Personal insights:
- Our Peer Mentors often share their own experiences during orientation week to help new students settle in and gain valuable insight from experienced students.
